PCV 6 DIY ....tackled Posted by GFW3pedals [Email] (#405) [Profile/Gallery] (more from GFW3pedals) on Mon, 15 Nov 2010 09:52:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just did the PCV 6 swap-out this weekend. Big thanks to FixmySaab site for directions and confidence booster, because looking at the job is nothing short of daunting. You cannot see the oil trap unless you have a mirror or a neck like a Giraffe! Taking it apart is one thing, getting it back together is another. Haven't wrenched in the driveway in a while so maybe I'm out of practice. Overall just want to say it IS doable so don't shy away. When I first got the oil trap out after much foul language, I failed to see any difference, but if you look closely the hole inside the upper connection is larger, for what it's worth. Everything else is the same. He recommends removing the alternator cable, I didn't and I feel it's more trouble than it's worth. Also don't be so quick to let it down off the jack as you can't get leverage from above in all situations of re-assembly. Of course, if the car was on a real lift the job would be much easier. I also thought my checkvalve was OK, testing it on the car, so I didn't order a new one, wrong, wind blows both ways like its hollow so a new one from Eeuroparts is on it's way. He also recommends a new drain hose ( separate part not in kit ) , which I really couldn't understand why as mine was fine to re-use. Put new one on anyway. Hope this piece of mind job does what it's supposed to.
