Hurray!
20+ miles of driving, two expressway drives, multiple starts and shut-offs, no codes.
Since I have 50K miles on the catalyst it would not be GenuineSaab's fault even if the Cat was failed. Experienced mechanics told me the "rule of thumb" for factory cats is 100K miles, anytime after that they may fail, or may not. I imagine the life of any smaller performance cat is less than factory parts. And who besides me would put 50K miles on a performance exhaust?
It seems this code is common on vehicles with modified exhaust systems equipped with "performance" catalytic converters after accumulating miles and age. I'll take it a day at a time and see if the CEL was a fluke yesterday. I own an OBD-II reader which I used to determine the code and clear it. Michigan does not require emissions checks any more, and never did in my county, so one potential headache is eliminated eventhough I have no desire to drive aorund in a car with an illuminated CEL.
