I recently replaced the water pump and radiator, although the pump may have still been OK. My alternator, power steering pump, A/C compressor, and turbocharger are still factory original.
Parts replaced include:
blower motor
exhaust system (including downpipe with catalytic converters - speed racer tendencies)
fuel pump
full suspension (spring, dampers, sway bars - again speed racer tendencies)
front wheel bearings
Many routine maintenance items
Higher cost items to be aware of on a 250K mile car include:
Turbo
Down-pipe and Cats
Front suspension
cost of the 60K major service due 10K miles ago (unless self performed)
Rear dampers are noticeable when they fail around 100K miles, the front is much more subtle and this car may still have original front struts. The cost of the factory downpipe with Cats is ~$1200, aftermarket pieces cost less but have shorter life too, performance pieces cost less and the pipes may last forever but include a shorter lived Cat due to space constraints. A replacement Turbo can be $400 to $600. The 60K Major Service costs nearlry $1000 at most mechanics simply because it requires almost 8 hours to complete, parts and fluids are about $200 if self performed.
