1999-2009 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I just purchased a black/charcoal Linear with the premium package through the GM supplier discount. The sales price was $30,100 after all discounts, including Saab loyalty. Not to mention the fact that they took a seriously ailling but seriously loveable Saab convertible off my hands at full blue book trade-in.
Since I'm still kinda young (29) I didn't really plan to spend as much as some of you who would be more interested in the Aero/Arc but I did consider the following cars very carefully before going with another Saab. I feel very good, btw, to be in the 9-5!
1. New A-4 1.8T Quattro : Too pricey; almost too pretty, which to me equates to too trendy; acceleration and ride not as interesting or unexpectedly sporty as the 9-5 but overall a seemingly very good car in the making. Again, seemed to get a lot more with the 9-5 though for actually a little less money.
2. BMW 325i : Basic one, again too pricey for what you get, but I have to admit if it wasn't for the arrogant nature of the typical driver I might have chosen this one. Really is fun to drive. Four doors, but a single person's car, which goes along with the narcissitic nature of its drivers.
3. BMW Z3 : My mom just got another one. Impractical and sort of silly. But the low-down full roar of the motor at both low and high rpms as well as the "let's play corners!" style of turning are enough to keep it interesting. New model has too much chrome rimmed stuff, though. Made me think of one of those pretty horrid Jaguars.
4. Acura RSX : I don't know, it was kind of neat in the way that the best Honda's can surprise you with their robotic drive quality and fairly nifty stearing/cornering, but overall feel was a little too cheapy. Thought if i was still 19 I would kill for one, though.
5. Volvo S60: Great style, no doubt, but overall car didn't do it for me. Pick-up is active but, cliches aside, really did feel like what I can only imagine what a Ford feels like. Interior, too, is much less interesting than the 9-5. Some pretty attractive deals on Volvo going right now though.
6. VW Passat : The most over-rated of all the cars I drove. Felt like it was all show. I am really suprised to see so many on the road. For the same money after discounts the Linear could be marketed to totally sink this VW.
