Removing the 4 screw/access covers on radio face plate

Wondering if anyone has found the best way to remove these 4 plastic covers/plugs that hide the holes on the face of the radio. I had a shop remove the radio to get at the cup holder to replace it. They pretty much mangled the face of the radio around the 2 plugs on the right hand side. There has to be a better tool/method to remove these...besides using a machete.
Thanks
Norm
