Is it a 4 cyl or V6?
Check with a mirror and flash light on the alternator lug ring battery cable if it is over heated. If so, the alternator might not charge the battery enough and the lack of charging will get worse as longer trips you take making that connection hotter and hotter transferring less charge.
The design of the battery cable makes it very difficult to impossible to cut out and crimp a new lug ring onto the cable but the whole cable from battery to starter to alternator has to be replaced.
On the V6 engine it is a task and a half plus some strong words to replace that cable.
