3M makes clear polyurethane 'rain erosion' tapes of various thicknesses for aerospace apps (e.g., leading edges of wings and rotor blades).
I had some samples between 10-mil and 14-mil and I applied it too my foglights. Seemed to work OK on the small stone impacts.
Don't know where you can find it. Maybe online; maybe at a small civil aviation airport? The 'where to buy' tab on this link isn't that helpful (IMHO) for someone needing a small amount like for two fog lenses.
