I'm a repeat saab owner and had a certified lemon with my 1993 9000 turbo. It was wonderful to drive but a maintenance nightmare.
Scene change: Waited 5 months for next Saab. With great expectations (especially reading the valuable comments on this forum. Just got my new 2002 Aero w/ xenons etc. After 345 miles after paking and starting again I ccouldn't get into gear. This reulted in an aborted trip up the California coast, a tow ride to dealer and long taxi ride home.
The result: Diagnosis a miplastic mclip that attaches the shift rod to the transmission fell off.likely due to it not being installed correctly in the first place... oops. so much for saab saftey. I waited for the car for 5 months and now the whole experience is disaffecting and soured me on the car, even though I know its not realistic.
Epilogue: Saab thusfar has dealt with the service aspect but otherwise to date has blown me off
