Some oil does not drain, even if you drain a hot engine via the sump and filter mount for 15 minutes. The oil in the oil cooler and related plumbing will not drain. An oil flush might be helpful, but that still leaves oil in the oil cooler etc.
If piston compression rings were not working well, sooty blow by gases would darken the oil faster. There are inexpensive additives that will tackle that and if was not needed at all, takes that issue off of the table. Can rings ever stick with a fully synthetic oil? One would expect not.
Soot in oil is not harmful, consider the very high soot load in diesel engines. Chemical and shear degradation is what damages oil.
I was shown a heavily modified Saab that was programmed to use E85 fuel. The intent for that was the very high octane and the boost levels that were then possible. The vehicle was driven very hard and on high boost a lot. I was shown the the oil on the dip stick, it looked clear as new. In this case, there would have been higher blow by than a stock engine, but there does not seem to be an associated soot load when burning ethanol.
Fouled injectors may make things worse, clean with Techron Concentrate and it will also tackle ring deposits.
