Hey folks,
I am a multiple Saab owner (7 from '79 GLE - '00 9-5). I've worked on them since I've had them. I've been very happy with the 9-5 and have had to do very little to it ove the 4 years I've had it.
3 weeks ago, I did some fairly major DIY front end work. New axles (re-manned), balljoints, sway bar links. When I pulled the driver's side axle, about a quart of fluid came out. My reading told me this was normal. But when I check the ATF level, it was still in the full range.
It took care of the famous front end vibration and I've been really enjoying it the past 3 weeks.
Today, after about an hour on the road, I stopped to drop off one of the kids in my carpool and noticed a tapping sound coming from the underside on the driver's side. When I got home, I got out the stethoscope and spent some time trying to isolate it. It's a loud tapping, most audible with the hood closed, that corresponds with the RPMs. As far as I can tell, it's coming from the bottom of the transmission!
I searched the archives, but couldn't find anything. Haynes offers no help. Did I miss something? Is there seperate fluid for the transaxle?
What the heck?
