Well, I have done two sedans. One non-hk and I bypassed the internal amp and put a medium end amp in the trunk. Wires back and forth. I put two medium end 6x9's in the back for subs and then a medium one din Sony Head end and replaced the speakers with the HK Saab speakers.
It sounds better than the non HK system, but I would not say it's a ton better. I would compare it with the factory HK systems. It turns out that the speakers do have strange Ohms. I have not got that picky yet to match / balance the speakers etc.
Some have used other speakers. I am looking at maybe Infinity Kapps or Perfects if I ever get the bug to do so. May have to get a better head end and amp though to match them.
Check out the page from angry kitchen appliances he has some tech info on them
Jeffo2
PS I am just getting to put in a box that will give me back the sterring wheel controls to the sony(s).
