I expect you will get more knowledgable 9-5 advice, but after you have ruled out the tie rod ends and strut issues take a hard look at lower arms and ball joints. I had a similar noise with a 9000 I owned; so bad that I parked it until I had time to really troubleshoot it. I spent that time worrying I had a cracked sub frame, bad welds, or worse. It was the non-OEM ball joints I had installed as replacements only eighteen months before - they were out of grease and rusting.
