re-installing the CPU - JZW tuned ,...long Posted by GFW3pedals [Email] (#405) [Profile/Gallery] (more from GFW3pedals) on Mon, 20 Jun 2011 10:05:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just re-installed the CPU after a stage 1 tune from JZW. First off let me say that I am pleased with the extra HP/torque, even if it's only 35-40. The car seems to have more grunt when you put your foot in it, safer passing and nice blasts up steep hills. John from JZW was easy to deal with and turnaround was quick and complete. No check engine light or rough running, runs fine. I wanted to share a tip for re-installing the CPU. If you have seen how it's hidden, can't see the bolts without a mirror, and if you drop them, some say they will fall down throught the dash and onto the passenger floor. Well, I didn't want to trust completely in that advice, so: I tied a loop of sewing thread around the nut with about a 5 inch leader, and the other end around my finger. Then put a dab of sticky calk on the end of my finger to temporarily hold the nut. Then placed the nut on the bolt and used the non sticky fingers to get it started. I dropped it a few times but with the thread on it, it wasn't a panic moment. Once tightened down, break the thread and your done. Other cautions include the clips that hold the plastic bulkhead cover to the windshield, they are spring clips ( I broke one, naturally ) that need to pull back towards the front of the car. Two of them need to unclip in order for you to get the plastic up enough to work in there. I plan to run a bead of silicone along the dry rotted rubber edge at the windshield to help form what was once a semi-watertight edge.
