how's this?
(1) remove serp belt tension and insert hex key into serp belt tensioner
(2) loosen upper idler pulley bolt to allow access for the 27mm socket to the timing chain tensioner
(3) remove center bolt and spring on the chain tensioner? the chain tensioner has a CENTER smaller bolt and spring through the middle of it you remove? this center bolt holds the spring in I suppose.
(4)THEN....remove the whole tensioner using 27mm socket, remove tensioner itself and assess length to max 15mm
everything refit in reverse? or can I put the spring and center bolt back in before re-installing the entire chain tensioner?
so the WIS leads you into opening up the cam cover. is this to assess the health of the chain guide as well I suppose? anyone do this as well? or just assume if tensioner hasnt reached 15mm, guide is probably OK. and if beyond 15mm, cam has to be opened anyway to put in a new chain. then can check the guides. if guides are bad...well....seems like the whole car has to come apart!!!
