Sounds like you might have a V6 engine?
I have seen more and more O-rings on the oil cap getting tired and need for replacement and also the lower o-ring around the oil filler neck into valve cover on the V6 engines.
That would make it looser.
On the 4 cyl engine it is not uncommen that the top yellow part of oil cap break with age and that would allow the cap to be loose by itself.
