Go and have another test drive - this time bear in mind the the Aero hits peak torque at 1900 rpm and stays that way to beyond 4000 rpm. In Sport mode the Auto box actually becomes more sensitive to the electronic throttle - unlike most 'Electronic' auto's that change the shift points to a higher RPM - the Aero's box shift points remain the same - and you just drive along the flat torque curve with a very, very eager engine keen to that 250 bhp onto the road surface - ASAP. Just once in a while - at low speeds that box seems to make an uncalled for up-shift - others have also noted this as well.
That said the 'box is adaptive - in that it constantly monitors the engines activities and its own and adjusts accordingly - my Aero had 3 miles on the clock yesteday afternoon - now it has 170 and the shift quality has improved markedly.
As posted elsewhere on the board I had a 'loaner' 2002 93se Turbo (185bhp) for 10 days before getting my Aero - make no mistake that 185bhp motor is quick (and you know it as torque steer and twitchy suspension make it kinda 'fun' in a hairy way) - the 9-5 Aero is much, much quicker and very subtle. The fantastic ride/cornering capability means fast cross country driving a real pleasure - no heart stopping lurches across the road when you hit a bump mid corner either.
Get an Aero - its hard to lose that stupid grin - it is one great car - rare these days.
