Replaced AC Clutch w/o removing compressor

The AC on my 2000 Aero suddenly quit a few weeks ago, (see earlier post), and after much head scratching, I concluded that the AC clutch had failed. I have a parts car so I pulled the compressor and the clutch checked out OK. After taking the clutch off of the parts compressor, I figured I could replace the clutch with the compressor in the car so I would not have to pay the have the refrigerant evacuated and skin my knuckles removing the compressor. It was a bit of a challenge, and I now have a custom bent 10 mm combo wrench and a pair of long needlenose pliers that are ground down just enough to grab the c-clips holding the pulley and the magnetic portion of the clutch. A small victory but it sure beats the $800-$1200 estimates from the local AC shops. Thanks to this site I was able to view step by step removing the serpentine belt and it turned out to be easier than I thought-and I now realize I have the short belt-maybe its time to replace it with the long belt.
