To all who suggested it's the station, or a bad tank, I've been using Chevron Supreme and 76 Supreme from many different stations for two months with the same (pinging) results. I just picked up the car from the Saab service center who tested fuel pressure and all the computer settings and all was fine. They called the Saab tech line and Saab said it may be carbon buildup on the top half of the motor. Next step is some carbon clearing process that runs a cleaning solution thru the motor and fuel system.
(And yes JEC, MTBE is one of the biggest mistakes our government has ever made)
By the way, I sat in an '02 Aero Wagon while dropping off my OO Aero -- a couple of observations: I love the bolstered seats, miss the perforated leather look, and is it me or is the bottom cushion not as deep as before? i.e. it didn't seem to support the back of my knee as well. Also, I was disappointed to see on the auto shift that there was no selection for 2nd gear. I creep in traffic a lot and would miss not being able to select 2nd. And of course, the silver dash just isn't as rich looking as the wood. I hope they give us a choice for '03.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
