Not trying to start a oil debate but just switched from Mobil 1 0w40 to Amsoil 5w40 European formula and I am very pleased. Mobil 1 is a great readily available oil but I definitely noticed a difference after switching. With out a doubt the most notable difference was in starting the car. Seems to turn over and engage much smoother and quicker. Idle was drastically improved and general acceleration seems better.
While not very accurate or a scientific method I used a infared thermometer off the block in a few spots and the engine appears to run 20-25 degrees cooler compared to Mobil 1.
Main reason I switched is my girlfriends Audi 1.8T (Another sludge prone engine) requires a similiar spec oil.
Pricing wise it was cheaper to make the switch as Mobil 1 0W40 is 8.99 a quart locally. Paid $100 for a case of 12 quarts for the Amsoil.
