High probability causes of power outlet failure?? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 18 Aug 2011 09:35:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
OK, I replaced a bunch of non-functioning lamps in my console the other night. Success with all lamp changes except the most difficult - the lighter/power outlet lamp. Rats!
On a whim this morning I tested the power outlet and discovered it no longer works. Since the return leg (ground) for the power outlet doubles as the ground for the lamp their combined failure means the new lamp is likely OK and the problem is with the ground leg.
A broken ground wire may be possible, but I didn't stress the wiring harness enough to cause this - I don't think.
A bad connection on the back of the lighter/power outlet body seems most likely - maybe I didn't fully seat the connector. But if the problem is none of these, what is the next highest probablity point of failure?
Thanks,
