Earlier today I decided to replace the spark plugs in our 2000 9-5 2.3t (13,000 miles). I had a new set of the NGK BCPR6ES-11 plugs which are the stock plugs for the car. Well, removed the DI cassette and pulled out one of the plug and SURPRISE, it was an NGK PFR6H-10. HUH, what happened here?

Well, at the 10,000 mile mark I had decided to avail myself of the SAAB ECU upgrade (which added 30 horsepower and 19 foot pounds of torque). I can only surmise that part of this upgrade was that the dealer also installed the NGK PFR6H-10 plugs in place of the NGK BCP6ES-11 stock plug. I believe that the new plugs installed are a slightly hotter version of the NGK PFR7H-10 plugs which are the stock plug for the 9-5 AERO. So, given that the NGK PFR6H-10 plugs only had 3,000 miles on them and that they looked fine, I decided to just check the gap and reinstall the plugs.

So, 9-5 owners who have the Saab ECU upgrade, be advised that you would probably need to use the NGK PFR6H-10 plugs installed by the dealer with the upgrade in lieu of the stock NGK BCP6ES-11 plus specified in your owners manual.
