I have a 99 9-5SE auto. Replaced Michelins with Kumho 712 235/45/17 on BBS RK lookalike 7.5"x17" rims. Great value tyre in all conditions and in my view leaves Michelin behind in handling and wet grip. Cost A$200 per tyre or US$100 per tyre.
Diameter is equal to original 215/55/16 but do get slight rubbing on outside edge of front wheelwell on the odd heavy front dip occasion.
No regrets but probably best to fit 225/45/17 and have Tech 2 reprogram speedo to account for reduced diameter. This size was available at A$183 so probably ~US$92.
I have had three SAAB's, always choose high quality tyres, have in the past tended to be disappointed by Michelins in the wet and am impressed by my first few months on the Kumho 712's.
I agree with other posts which emphasise the issue of not compromising on tyre quality. Go for grip over mileage every time. They tend to be inversely related and your life may depend on it.
Cheers
Alcoop
