Replaced the turbo on my 2000 wagon last year and was very concerned about the oil line being clogged. But the line showed no clogs or sludge after about 100,000 miles. The turbo failed due to oil leakage past the bearing and resulting carbon buildup on the turbine. Did PCV #6 on the car years ago as soon as it came out. Don't think you can automatically write off a pre-2004 4-cylinder. Have a 2000 and a 2001 and both are going fine.
