Aero starting problems - help

I have an '01 manual transmission Aero (12k miles) that over the last month has experienced difficult starting - the most recent episode being last night. When I turn the key, the engine cranks but nothing happens - I usually wait about 5 to 10 seconds before cranking it again and I crank it for about 15sec at a time. After about 5min of on-and-off cranking the car finally sputters to life and runs very well - this starting problem has happened three times. I'm not on the gas when cranking (I realize with fuel injection you're not supposed to press the accelerator when starting the car) and have all the accessories off. This morning the car lit right off and continued to run well which is characteristic behavior, I've learned, after having the starting problem. Does anyone have any insight into what is going on? The dealer has had the car and they can't seem to find any problems - the battery has also already been replaced. I'm not very familiar with the Direct Ignition system in this car - could that be part of it? Any insights would be appreciated - thanks in advance everyone.
Cheers,
Icepick.
