OK. my 02 Aero 4 door - is a whole week old and I've notched up 1000 miles this evening - quick observations:
1) Initially the steering was way too light - now the tyres (tires?) have scrubbed off a little the steering is nicely (perfect?) weighted.
2) The silver dash panel is growing on me - I was intent in changing it for the Carbon Fibre version (£518 UK pounds fitted by a Saab dealer). The silver dash does have a hidden benefit - the smallest spec of dust shows up on the dark wood (or Carbon) items - on the silver version you can't see it - a BIG plus point in its favour - passengers all seem to like it too - its staying.
3) The brakes take a few hundred miles to bed in and felt pretty feeble to satart with. I really needed them today on the motorway at 80mph when a fellow UK driver did something really, really dumb..... falling down a hole in the road would stop you faster - but only just! The retard rate is fantastic - the Aero just squats a little, no nose-dive and stops, no fuss, no drama and the ABS wasn't required either.
4) The Xenon headlamps are seriously good - like having two sports stadium floodlights on the front - the 1st 10ft of light has a strange streaky pattern but beyond that its an even beam spread of intense white light. If you drive at night away from the towns and cities - don't hesitate - its a 'must have'
5) 5Speed auto is excellent - after a while you notice that the 'box really respects the peak torque zone of 1900-4000 rpm - it'll resist swopping to a lower ratio if normal acceleration is all that is required on a level road (just like you would if you were shifting a manual) very neat.
6) Auto-wipers useless gadget or useful? Actually really useful, they need to be reminded to do their calibration sweep each time - after that they just get on with it - think of it as automatic intermittent wipe with the capability to be fully 'on'.
7) Negatives? Small things - the rear licence plate lamp holder was floating around, completely unattached - Saab must have run out of screws that day because all four were missing - great PDI (not). I chose silver (again) with the charcol trim - the bugs/insects get stuck between the chrome grille finishers and the body coloured areas of the grille - its maybe a 1mm gap - its real hard to clean them out - I guess I'm too fussy!
