I am posting this for others when they search like I did before tackling this task. It was much easier than expected and took me an hour that was mostly finding the right combination of extensions and wrenches. Here are a few item I log here:
- no need to drain coolant unless you want to flush it well.
- remove the decorative cover on top of the TB. Says "Turbo" on it.
- there are only two 13mm bolts holding the housing in place
- don't bother with removing the two 10mm bracket and ground bolts. I just pushed them back once the two 13mm were out.
- Do not take the hose off the housing
- the bottom 13mm bolt needs an extension for the ratchet at the firewall
- the upper 13mm bolt was loosened with a 1/4" stubby ratchet then used my finger ratchet to remove it
- Have a telescopic magnet at hand for retrieve any fallen bolts
- once 13mm bolts are removed, push back on housing with the attached bracket, remove the old thermostat/gasket from the block, and replace w/new one (bleeder hole at 12 o'clock) into block
- push housing back on, hold with left hand and finger thread the two 13mm bolts back on with right, followed by tightening them up with wrenches.
- I lost about a quart of coolant and just refilled with distilled water.
Most of the time trying different combos of sockets, extensions and wrenches before I actually started to get somewhere. Now that I have done it once, I could do it in 15-30 minutes next time easily. Be sure to where gloves because you are forcing your hands into really small area.
This is for a 2005 ARC.
