I send them out for rebuilding all the time. If there are no fault codes, that means the module lost internal power. It can't set a fault code when it's dead. Otherwise if it's a sensor or wiring crimp there will be a fault code in the ESP system memory. Somtimes the CEL comes on too if the module is dying. It sets a code in the ECM for no speed data from the brake module.
