Do not confuse turbo lag with boost lag. Most boost lag is from control systems. With a MBC+A [anticipator] on a T5, you get boost that comes on very fast and it is not very drivable in 1st gear. A SMBC can create some of the same boost dynamic. With a T7, you can get a CEL and a limp home mode that resets with next start up.
The +A was a concept that I came up with that allowed the wastegate to open fast enough to avoid fuel cuts with the T5. Jeff, a member here from Atlanta realize the design and sold to many.
The +A overcomes a fundamental flaw in MBC's. If the pressure port is connected before the IC, the pressure drops as CFMs increase. If connected at the TB, the wastegate cannot be opened soon enough and you get pressure overshoots and fuel cuts. The MBC+A allowed the MBC to take pressure from the TB without fuel cuts and boost did not drop off at higher RPMs. The +A is a special order low pressure range pressure regulator, that can survive underhood pressures, that is adjusted to apply pressure to the wastegate actuator so it is pressurized and near opening, thus allowing the first flow from the MBC to start moving the wastegate. Otherwise the time delay for the MBC to pressurize the WGA is too late. The pressure regulator is adjusted until some boost lag is noticed, then backed off a bit.
