Cautionary tale regarding aftermarket DIC/IDMs Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 16 Jan 2012 10:50:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Anders cautioned me the other day that a comment I posted regarding sources for new DIC/IDMs could lead to trouble for owners. One again he is correct. Not that I disagreed, but current parts availability problems may force us to do things we would otherwise consider foolish. Anyway, here is the quote from a 9-5 owner copied form another board.
".....Interestingly, the swapped one I was using was a reman from rockauto from Intermotor. In three months it blew up (oil in cylinder 2), then I opened up the backside of the coil pack and noticed that the damn thing had red paint in there. Guess what this was a Trionic 5 module that they painted black and passed off as a T7 module. So be very wary of these remanned items because I can imagine supply is coming from these Asian ones ('NEW") and old remanned ones (which were probably recall ones)--so just a word of caution. SO it looks like they are even remanning T5 modules and passing them off as T7 modules. If anyone is interested I can post a photo so others can beware...."
The old adage of "if it seems too cheap to be true, it probably is" is proven once again.
