P1300 means random catalyst damaging misfire. It could be 2 cylinders or all of them. Was the CEL on when you took it in? Tech2 will show a misfire count for each cylinder and the freeze frame record will show whether it was lean or rich when it happened. All of this gets erased if you disconnect the battery or if the fault does not come back for a while.
Does it happen often, hot or cold, acceleration or at idle? Try to determine the conditions that reproduce the problem. It could be something as simple as an air leak. You really need to have a plan to diagnose these cars without a Tech2 so start with trying to figure out what driving conditions cause it to act up.
Back in the late 80s we had CELs, but no Tech2 and we had to just start checking everything because the fault codes were pretty useless.
