Carbon Fiber appliqués Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 2 Feb 2012 06:45:17 In Reply to: Re: Hypothetical time and Dash Kits, Brad Lauzze, Wed, 1 Feb 2012 12:27:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I wish there were fully molded dash kits available. Although the ads posted on supplier sites allude to these being molded, the truth is these kits are more akin to precision cut contact paper.
Some sources say their self adhesive panels are the thickness of two dimes. Others say their carbon fiber kits are real carbon fiber fabric with adhesive to adhere them to the interior panels.
I know some owners have bought a roll of carbon fiber fabric and made their own covers by gluing, heat shrinking, and carefully trimming much like upholstery work. Some photos look very good while others look cheesy (IMHO). Long term durability is another question.
I was hoping to find a known source for good looking interior trim panels that were almost goof-proof for installation. Doesn't sound like these exist.
