For the uninitiated like I was:
1. Mine was a ACC "code 8", which I think you yourself had said on this board CAN be either side but in my case was the driver/left side. I lucked in by opening the correct side first. Important to get the OBD/TechII codes correct so that you know which side.
For those that do not know - there is a OBD code AND an ACC code that correspond. Check that out to confirm you are not wasting your time /effort.
2. When opening up the fascia under the steering wheel take care as, for me, the broken arm fell out at that point after lodging in the vent elbow. Apparently you can lose it...? But it was nice early confirmation for me that I was on the correct side.
3. The description/instructions sheet I received with my part was quite good but if you use it, more than in most cases, I suggest you study it first. Once you have it all out and BEFORE you put the arm and shaft in place, "clock" the arm position on the step motor. I did not do it first and had to pull it out an go back. Small thing but after all the trouble it was high on the swear-word scale.
To get in there :
1. Swedecar is an expert and I so respect and appreciated his suggestion to go in with a mirror on the floor but I could not do that. His hands are far more adept than mine. If you are like me then all you can do is lead with your head, go in on your back with your belly in the air and legs out at a 45 degree angle to the car. Use a good soft cover on the door sill for your back. I am in my 50's and had a chair outside the doorway for my feet and legs. My back was giving me heck - and I am pretty fit.
2. *** IMPORTANT - Have some kind of cover over the plastic seat control protector/fascia.*** In the wriggling and writhing I must have leant too hard on it and it is now broken.
3. You will appreciate using as small a socket drive as you can find. I had a 3 inch one that made all the difference when trying to get the bolts off the vent elbow and the step motor.
4. Most important of all - have a masseur on call and a cold one ready to go. Make it two.
Enjoy!
