Summer tire suggestions Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Thu, 22 Mar 2012 05:57:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I thought I'd start a new thread vs hijacking the one below. I've got a 2004 Arc with 17" wheels. I am looking for suggestions + feedback wrt to summer tires for this 9-5. I run winter tires in winter, so I don't need all seasons. If a particular all season was as good, of course I'm open to that, but my prime concerns in a summer tire are safety and performance related: wet road performance and handling in wet + dry. Secondary to that are things like wear and fuel economy (and maybe purchase cost - that is very secondary). Comfort, noise, and snow performance don't matter to me at all. These tires will not see snow (I have 3 Saabs and 3 sets of snow tires)... V rated (or higher)... I am biased towards directional tires but am open to all... I am not interested in cheap chinese or even korean tires...
I was hoping to try out Nokian V, but they are unobtanium in north america. Already got some great feedback wrt the Michelin Pilot Sport AS, and would love to hear more good and bad. Continental Extremecontact DW is also interesting. Does anyone run them? Are the sidewalls stiffer than DWS?
I'm assuming 225/45R17 is the best size choice for me, but... Is anyone running 235 series tires on the pre-2006 cars? I'm pretty sure that was standard 2006+ and it better matches my current 16" winter wheel radius (though I plan to sell those).
thanks!
James...
