My apology for hijacking this thread. I have been meaning to post this, and it seems appropriate here.
Over the last few weeks, I have noticed a really strong coolant smell when I get out of the car.
I can find no sign of coolant anywhere.
The smell seems much stronger on the driver's side.
Car is 1999 2.3, it's low mileage (66,500) and I admit it's been driven very little lately, so little that I have not had any low-coolant warning since before I noticed this.
Water pump was replaced 12/05 at 36,000 miles.
I can't see anything at the pump.
I have pulled that shield and looked all around the by-pass valve area and I do not see anything that would indicate any kind of leak there (and as I said, I smell it more at the front).
I would really appreciate any input as to what I should look at for this.
Our plan was to use this car for a 2,500 mile trip to Nova Scotia early this summer, so i really need to find out what the problem is. I'll also note that if this is something major the car will get replaced, as there is already a leakage in the main transmission casing (manual) that is being dealt with.
Thanks
