Jeff,
My 2004 Aero wagon started getting the same symptoms you note with the speedo still working. It was only happening during the hot months and disappeared from fall through spring. I sent the ABS unit to reman bbs and when I reinstalled the symptoms came back several months later when the wx turned hot again. I took it to the dealer and they pulled a code with the Tech 2 that seemed to indicate a bad wheel sensor or loss of signal from the sensor. They replaced one of the sensors on the back wheels. Symptoms returned in hot wx. The last time I mentioned it at the dealer, they now think, based on a service bulletin (apparently), that the loss of signal may be corrosion in a junction splice coming from the rear sensors to the abs unit. When the wx gets hot it results in higher resistance in the current flow and loss of signal. I don't know if this unique to the wagon. Our 2003 Aero sedan has only had the ABS/TCS off symptoms once or twice I think (wife's car). When I get a chance I was going to try and follow the wires from the rear wheels and see what I discover. Maybe I can fix it myself.
