Cooling woes

This last week I replaced the by-pass hose to engine after it broke at the engine.(Was a reasonable looking hose that split underneath. Anyway, replaced the top hose as well but baulked at doing the valve and the expansion tank hose.) Had a problem with the old radiator hose taking off part of the top pipe (was 1.5 inch or so) to which it should be attached. I was left with a small amount (now 0.75 inch at worst point) and did what I could. Seemed OK until today when I got home fro a short trip and coolant splashed out everywhere.
Turns out that it did not have enough grip and let go at the broken top again taking more of the pipe with it. Now I have around 0.5 inch all round.
Firstly, want to warn you all of this possibility as you change that top hose. It gets very fragile.
Secondly, despite you all not being able to see the amount of top pipe MY QUESTION IS does anyone think that this letting go could mean a build up of pressure elsewhere?
There does not seem to be any symptoms. No SID warning other than when low when hose initially went.
Seems I need to replace the radiator but should I replace the thermostat etc too? Does not look easy. Thanks in advance.
