Loosing coolant. Can't find it.....really! Posted by markatl [Email] (#1833) [Profile/Gallery] (more from markatl) on Tue, 24 Apr 2012 06:38:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have been loosing coolant and my mechanic cant find where it is going on my 04 Arc-40,000 miles. This was after replacing my radiator, which after a dye test he found the leak; but now there are no signs of coolant anywhere-no smell either. He has done pressure tests and looked for signs of head gasket leaks(he said he did some test of some sort besides the visual inpection of the pistons, spark plugs, oil etc.). Anyway, in the end the Saab indy mechanic said that they could not find any leak and that it must have just burped a lot(more than normal) after replacing the radiator. I got it back and now have put in another 8-10oz after driving 90 miles or so.
Now I dont know if this is related but I did post three weeks ago about rough starts, rough idle for 10-20 seconds or so and eventually-after a few days- having white smoke out the exhaust-starting both hot and cold(I was loosing coolant at this time as well). After this period, I filled with 93 octane and the smoke went away. We decided it was bad gas, but now the rough starts and idle along with the white smoke is back. I did go back to 89 on last fill up. But 89 should be fine, right? And, is this a seperate issue from the coolant leak?
Excuse my ramble, but I am stumped. I have read past threads on both coolant leaks and gas types and still cant find an answer. It started up decently this morning but did smoke some. I put in about 8oz coolant last night and now it is down 1" below the cold line.
luckily I do have an aftermarket carmax warranty, so all these problems(many not listed here) have been covered.
Any ideas would be great!
thanks,
Mark
