Alternator replacement (somebody lied) Posted by Gregg [Email] (#677) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gregg) on Thu, 17 May 2012 13:34:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My wife called me frantic on Tuesday that the car displayed the ! warning light and the battery light on her way to work. This came two days after the SID showed the message about Theft Protection Module error.
I called around and because my indie couldn't get to the car same day and we can't be without the car (we work in opposite directions by about 30 miles). So, I purchased an alternator locally and set out to install myself. What a PITA that was. I also installed a new serpentine belt since I had not changed it in 100K.
Anyway, thank Saabnet for being there I was able to search the posts and find instructions for removing the alternator I had totally spaced on the part of the directions that stated remove the tensioner pulley. In the end I took the part out through the bottom and felt that was the easiest (though not while lying on your back in your driveway).
This was a '04 Arc Wagon with 157K miles on the odometer and that we've had really no issues with since we've owned it.
