Re: Brake booster has oil in it-safe to drive? Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Brake booster has oil in it-safe to drive?, Steve, Fri, 15 Jun 2012 19:33:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I assume you have a late model 99 9-5 with the brake booster vacuum pump on cylinder head (early 99 9-5 had electric vacuum pump).
The vacuum pump can fail and allow engine oil to get to the brake booster. Saab later on came out with a new pipe with a second check valve to help stop the oil if it happened.
No one here on the internet can promise that your car can be driven 180 miles and it would be ludicrous to make such statement. It is all up to you and what you fell comfortable with.
Do you feel lucky?
Repair estimates don't mean much unless it is itemized with exactly what parts they are planning to replace and brand used.
It sounds high to me based on if I only think brake booster and vacuum pipe and nothing else. But it might be more things they have included in that estimate.
It can also be a big difference in price if they use a genuine Saab booster or an after market ATE one. The genuine one is almost $900.00 for the part alone.
