4-cylinder:
Stay off the boost. i.e. accelerate slower.
I seem to average about 26-28 with an even mix of city/highway driving. My driving mix can vary from week to week depending on where I'm working, and if I'm carpooling. My in-town is about 24-25, highway 30-34 depending on traffic flow and terrain. If you're getting 32 on the highway I'd say there's nothing wrong with your car.
