Here is what I would check first.
1- The one-way check valve in vacuum tubing line that goes from the back of the passenger side of the crankcase to the small connector on the bottom of the throttle body. The arrow on this check valve should point towards the throttle body and you should be able to blow through this check valve but shouldn't be able to suck through it.
2- With a cold engine, reach way down to the tubing that goes from the bottom of the plastic oil trap to the fitting on the oil pan/sump. I have seen this tube go completely bad and develop failed spots. You can squeeze it and if it is mushy you'll want to pull if off and replace it. I took mine into Napa and although they didn't have the exact one, they found one that was close enough to put on and resolve my problem until the right one can be ordered. This is more likely to resolve a smoke/fumes issue though.
3- Oil pressure sensor or sender located just above the starter is a common leak spot. Yours probably has one yellow wire coming from it, and when it isn't sealing properly, oil can drip down to the cat and burn off there.
Of course there are other things for more skilled folks to answer, but those are quick and common things that I would check if I were you. -JerryC
