Even though they say it is not a common failure in next picture. I wonder if this is where it all starts.
I have not taken apart enough motor housings to verify this.
If you look at the middle gear and inside it is two white tabs. Those are mechanical limit stops for the gear so that it cannot turn more than a certain 180° distance and not apply all the electric motor force onto the white lever (which is what we replace mostly).
On the black housing for motor is a tab that interacts with those to stops inside gear and you can see the remains of that black tab on top of the gear right at the motor metal housing.
So my suspicion is that the black tab breaks off from the plastic housing first, then the motor is applying all the force onto the lever when the REC doors reach their physical end position breaking the lever and in my last case, when the lever was fresh, it broke the shaft off that center gear instead.
So this is another good reason for a shop to replace the whole motor instead of trying to replace the gears inside.
