I would first of all take a good look everywhere else and clean off the engine good before starting the journey of replacing the rear main seal on a V6.
It sounds strange with a V6 not leaking a drop of oil until now but you might be in another part of the country where seals are living a leisure life.
The ones I see here all leak a little bit or a lot from here and there and it's only when it is a lot that I deal with it and it's usually the valve cover gaskets, front engine seals or the blind cover for oil filter port.
They all weep from the rear main seal area but it would have to be serious before I opt to do a rear main seal since it also might involve sealing the rear main bearing cap which is a whole other story.
