Well, as far as I know all 9-5 have immobilizer function as part of the theft alarm system.
So all keys have a chip of some sort inside that allows you to start the engine when you insert the key and turn on the ignition.
So I'm pretty sure your key and 9-5 is like all the others I have seen.
When it comes to the power lock system. That's another question and issue.
If all doors don't lock and unlock when you use your key in the driver door or if the doors don't lock and unlock with the button on center console, then you have a power lock problem and it could be as easy as a blown fuse.
And then when the power locks are working and if you want to have a remote to lock and unlock the doors, then you have to get a remote and have it programmed to your car with the Tech 2 scanner.
I also strongly urge you to get a second key programmed to the car so in your case, it would be easiest to get the all-in-one key and with that you would get both a remote and key in one shot.
