Here's my guess:
The seal on the bearings is leaking slowly allowing a small amount of oil that was meant to lubricate the turbo bearings to collect in your exahust while it sits idle, once you start it up the oil burns off and presto- there's your smoke. I'm assuming that if this was the case then if you left it longer without repairing it then as the leak becomes worse it would smoke constantly? Have you noticed a power loss from the turbo?
Is the smoke blue/black?
