Xenon headlight conversion (update)

After pricing out the components to change my halogen lights to factory Xenon lights I decided to go aftermarket. To install Saab lights the price was quickly approaching $3000 Canadian. The original headlight package includes the lights, ESP, automatic wipers, and parking assist and only costs $1800. The only option I wanted out of that package was the headlights. I knew that the individual parts would cost more, but I was suprised to find out just how much more (The Xenon unit costs $1000 per side and that doesnt include any of the wiring or center of gravity sensors etc) I got a set of aftermarket HID lights for $1000 and installed them last night- they don't have the automatic leveling feature but they are a huge improvement over the stock halogen units. I've retained the stock halogen reflectors as well, so you can't tell they are Xenon until you turn them on (In Canada, this is when the car is started)- no big deal, I like the looks of the xenon reflectors but I'm really in this for performance- not looks.
Has anyone else had experience with aftermarket headlight systems- any thoughts or tips? Where did you mount the ballasts and starters?
