I ve owned a V6 9-5 for 15 months (car made in Dec 98 had 40K km when I got it and has 65K now).
No problems with the engine so far in terms of performance, overall feel, etc. Definately more responsive and smooth than the 170Hp I ve tried, and the sound is lovely. Does however consume a lot of juice (98 octane) - approx 17 liters/100 km in heavy Moscow traffic, and could never get it below 10 l on average on a highway.
Another great feature is the residual heating function which comes with this engine (in winter you stop the car, extract the key, hold the ACC AUTO button for 3 seconds, and the ACC starts blowing warm air from the engine). Lasts about 30 minutes on an averagely cold day and keeps the inside nice and warm.

Maintenance - not up to 90K on it yet so can not comment on belt replacement. However, some things around the engine and unique to the 3.0 have broken down -
1. Throttle body (dealer told me these break down on the 4 cyls as well). Heavily expensive (USD 650 in Russia compared to USD 400 for the 4 cyl).
2. Thermostat (cost 90 USD for the new termostat plus 2 hrs to replace as the thingy is way down below and the manifolds have to be dismantled to reach it). On a 4 cyl, its a 20 minute job.
I hope not to have to deal with the other differences, like a wacky two-piece DI cassete, etc.

This engine, I believe, is a different design from the 2.5 V6 900NG or the 3.0 V6 9000 engines, and is produced in the UK.

There is a surprising lack of chip upgrades for this engine (only Nordic has one officially).

In general, there are so few of them around in Russia that the dealers have no reliable statistics. So far I was told there were no reports of engine failure locally, but the guys from the USA should have a better say in this.

Good luck,
Yury
