How long can I go with a leaking oil pressure sensor?

Hi all,
Our 2000 linear wagon, 112k miles, has developed an oil leak, and after investigating we can tell it's the oil pressure switch (or is it a sensor?). This is a repair that my husband would ordinarily do, except that he has temporarily lost the use of his left arm due to a shoulder injury and doesn't expect to be able to work on the car for at least 3 months. He thought maybe I could complete the repair under his guidance, but since I had difficulty opening the olive jar while making martinis last night it's hard to think that's a viable option!
Is it reasonable to wait 3+ months to make this repair (assuming we're driving it sparingly and keeping an eye on the oil levels), or should I take it to a professional? I don't mind checking oil, and the drips on the floor are fairly modest, but I also don't want it to fail on the road and it's probably been leaking for at least 3 months or more. On the other hand my husband enjoys repairing the car and is loathe to pay someone else to do it.
Any thoughts appreciated - thank you!
