Might be as simple as a failed solenoid Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 21 Jun 2013 03:22:57 In Reply to: first gear inop, speed sensor only allows, jimmy, Thu, 20 Jun 2013 09:06:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I believe these are accessible with the tranny in the car and are D-I-Y-able. At least one other owner has posted on a competing board of doing this job himself after purchasing a full set of solenoids on eBay. IIRC he bought a set market for a Nissan that uses the same Aisin-Warner transmission. For some reason that I can't recall it was important for him to replace the full complement of solenoids rather than only one.
Low and Reverse use the same gear set and most of the same internal clutches (obviously one difference to get the output shafts to turn in the opposite direction). All the other forward gears work - to your knowledge. Reverse works. With the clutch engagement sequence from the WIS you (or a Tech) should be able to pinpoint which solenoid has failed.
