I remove the shrink wrap and install the shorter hose first on the bottom pipe and then the longer at top.
When removing the old hoses I get down there with a new razor blade and cut off the two hoses and remove package. That way it is a lot easier to get to the hose clamps with the wire tool and remove the stumps.
A little bit of silicone grease in and out on the new hoses makes them slide on easy and slide the hose clamp in place.
